How to Create your Logo-Saurus.

Raise your hand if you haven’t seen Jurassic World. Okay, you in the back, go to the theatre and get caught up with the rest of society. Then read this blog.

Logos are everywhere and are apart of every facet of our lives. If you saw Jurassic World, you viewed more than a dozen of our world’s most recognizable, most respected brands. And those logos didn’t make it to the top by accident. Countless studies on logo design, billions of dollars in advertising, and over a hundred years of “public relations” being a study in sociology now supports the science of design.

What makes a logo fierce, attractive, and..colossal like those brands in Jurassic World? We’ll break it down for you.

  1. Keep it simple, stupid. Don’t let the viewer’s eyes wander or get confused with small, intricate designs. The less the audience has to think about your logo, the better.
  2. Be Yourself. Don’t take tips from your competitors, but instead, explore new territory. Steer clear from globes or arrows, and don’t try to tell your company’s story in the form of art. Case in point, Apple.
  3. Change is Good. Make sure your logo can adapt and be responsive on various platforms. A stagnant logo is a forgotten logo.
  4. Trends are bad. Okay, this may be counter intuitive from our last point. But stick with us. Don’t go down the dangerous, dark path of trying to be on trend with your logo. Be clean and classic. Your logo cannot be redesigned every three to five years.
  5. Know your Audience. And design for that audience. Use colors and cues that are specific to age markets, regions, and sexes. A little research will go a long way in this important process!
